    Default Thank You's Become Reputation

The thank you system will be disabled and the reputation system will be enabled. The reputation system is worth more points and will allow you to leave both positive and negative reputation. In addition to this, you will now be able to leave a comment along with your reputation points.

All thanks given so far will remain, but you will no longer be able to give or receive them. To use the reputation system, click the scale icon on the top right-side of posts, next to the post number.

Here are some rep points for you!

Well I'm glad it isn't both systems in operation, as it was when I first arrived here. Being an indecisive nitwit, I would have struggled to decide which to use and ended up using neither. :)

I personally like the rep system for its commenting feature, but I honestly think you're making a mistake leaving the negative reps side of it enabled. The entire rep system was abandoned at WS when negative reps ended up causing endless ructions there. I believe Political Forum went through similar troubles and eventually disabled negative reps. There are still a few disgruntled comments about the rep system there, as a cabal of right wing posters have played it to get to to the top of the reputation tables--like that really matters to anyone--but on the whole I think it works quite well as a way to say "good post" to someone without cluttering up the threads with quotes. To which end I would also advise having the spread-it-around number set very low--one even.

I'm not too keen on the Thanks system at Debate Politics because there is no notification and it doesn't indicate who/where new thanks were from. But I noticed that both of those things were available here on the CP page--I guess it's a newer version of the vBulletin software--so I thought it was pretty good.

I don't really like the thank you system. I'm not sure I will like the new system tho I'm willing to give it a try.

I may enable a setting where a moderator or administrator has to approve each reputation point to ensure that there's atleast a constructive comment behind each negative rep.

Okay... that will probably work. Although it may become a bit burdensome if the place gets busy. And I guess you can always change your policy in the future if things aren't going the way you'd hoped. :)

Are you going to replace "top thanked" with "top reputation" on the stats bar?
