Default Is There Anything The Left Won't Blame on Bush?

First, my disclaimer. Bush was not within my purview as a good President. In fact, even though I voted for the booger four times, I would most likely rate him as one of the ten or fifteen worst Presidents. With that said, I have to marvel at the complete stupidity of the left to blame Bush for the break up of the marriage of the Gores. That, friends, is a sockdolager of an idea. Sheesh.

    Excerpt

On Tuesday’s CBS Evening News, with the help of the Washington Post’s Sally Quinn, Sharyl Attkisson managed to blame news, that Al and Tipper Gore are separating, on how they never got over being denied the presidency despite winning the popular vote in 2000. If only Bush hadn’t taken it from them.

Attkisson recalled “it’s been ten years since that oddly public passionate kiss at the Democratic convention. That was followed by Gore winning the popular vote for President but losing the electoral vote. Family friend Sally Quinn says that may have done the marriage irreparable harm.”

Viewers then head from Quinn, who’s married former Post Executive Editor Ben Bradlee and is now titular overseer of the paper’s “On Faith” blog: “He obviously suffered a lot and still is suffering. He’ll never get over that and neither will she.”

What next will Bush be blamed for? Cancer? Tuberculosis? Arthritis? Diabetes of the blowhole? Good Googly Mooglies!

you and your source misread. This is more about Gore not being able to let it go. So, the blame is on Gore. Being silly doesn't make an argument. Bush is to be blamed for the things he did and didn't do. And that is what most people blame him for.

Good writing (especially in journalism) requires that most sentences have an active verb with an identified agent. Saying "Bush took it from him" just follows the rules of clear writing--it's not an indictment. What was Bush supposed to do, give up? No reasonable person would suggest this, and the article doesn't either.

That may be true, but ever since then the Gore gang and a large number of democrats have said Bush STOLE the election from Gore, even going so far as having used the USSC to do so.

I realize that, but I don't see how that is related to this story. Whatever side ended up losing that battle, the election would have seemed a huge blow. Both men saw themselves declared winners on election night. Both sides engaged in post-election bs more aimed at simply winning than at getting a definitive, objective vote count. Ultimately the election was decided by a valid legal process, whatever one thinks of the ultimate decision. Life ain't fair. Sometimes a bad decision robs you of a perfect game and everyone agrees you got gipped. Sometimes people disagree about what the right decision should have been.

In any case, article says Bush "took" the election, not that he stole it. And, indeed, Bush DID "take" the election--just as every election winner "takes" the contest.
